About this app

A premium chess room with a physically based 3D Staunton set, richly textured 2D boards, adjustable computer levels, timed games, human invite rooms and a local chess-engine arena.

Requirements

WebGL2 for the 3D room, with a playable 2D fallback. Workers and WebAssembly for Stockfish and compatible imported engines. Online rooms and account saves require Hackemist sign-in. Imported browser UCI JavaScript and optional matching WASM run on the player's device; native executables and threaded distributions are unsupported.

Credits

Obsidian Chess for Hackemist. Chess Set geometry: Riley Queen / Poly Haven (CC0). Wood Table 001 and Wooden Studio 01 lighting: Poly Haven, including Alexander Scholten (CC0). Powered by Poly Haven assets, bundled locally. 2D Staunton renders: clarkerubber (MIT). Manrope, Instrument Serif and Noto Sans Symbols 2 (SIL OFL). Three.js (MIT), chess.js (BSD-2-Clause), Stockfish.js 19.0.1 / Stockfish 19 Lite (GPLv3). Complete notices and corresponding game source are bundled.

Release notes

Version 2.0.1: rotate directly from any part of the 3D board, including square controls. Spread or pinch two fingers to zoom; visible − / fit / + buttons and keyboard + / − / 0 provide alternatives. Drags and multi-touch gestures cannot become accidental moves. Camera orientation and zoom survive resizing, and zoom joins personal preferences. The renderer releases its GPU resources when leaving the game. Includes the rebuilt responsive room, sculpted PBR Staunton set, 16 finishes and three realistic 2D collections from version 2.0. Five computer levels, local/online human play, Blitz/Rapid/Classical clocks and device-run UCI engine matches retained. Startup prepares shaders asynchronously, static scenes stop requesting frames, unchanged clock labels avoid DOM rewrites, and Balanced detail adapts shadow resolution on software graphics.
